LaRose with YASMIN AMIRAH @ I Am Next

photo

"It impacts me everyday" ...YASMIN AMIRAH is a 17 year old singer/ songwriter from South East London. Whilst conversing I asked her how long she has been singing for, she told me that she started 7 years ago, however she started recording when she was 15. We then spoke about who some of her favourite artist were; Aaliyah, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and Erykah Badu were some of the female artist that she aspires to be like.

I asked Yasmin what keeps her in the zone when she is song writing. She started of by saying that she usually has to be in a quite room or it could be the total opposite when she's out in a natural habitat where she is able to express herself. I find it very important to know what type of state of mind and environments a musician is in when writing because of course it will always complete the final product which is the song.

Before speaking to Yasmin Amirah I listened to a few of her songs and covers on her Soundcloud and wanted to know what type of concepts she was going for, I asked her this during our interview and she told me that her songs are mainly about love and personal issues. This then made me ask about much music impacts her, "It impacts me everyday". Just from speaking to Yasmin I was able to understand that music literally lives through her veins, I was also able to to gain a feel of the type of old school R&B music she listened to whilst also relating this to the type of sounds that she's bringing to the industry. Yasmin then spoke to me about her plan b, we discussed her future plans about going  to university to study Criminology. I was definitely surprised by this, seeing as Criminology is the absolute opposite to music. Clearly she's not just voice she's brains too!

'Alternative Soul' is the title of Yasmin's EP which should be released in August 2015, She told me that its going to be a mash up of soul ,R&B and other genres of music. I'm greatly looking forward to this.

Finally I asked Yasmin Amirah when she fell in love with singing. She told that she started singing when she was 10, but became serious about singing when she was 14 because people started complimenting her voice and the rest has been history. Yasmin's voice is extremely beautiful, easy to listen too and I wish her nothing but success.

LaRose on CLUBS & SPADES FT TOM PRIOR - CLEARER COAST

CLUBS & SPADES  are a Hip-Hop collective of two MC's; Matic Mouth and Shinobi, and two producers Andy Nicholson and Jamie Shield.
I recently watched one of their latest music videos 'Clearer Coast' and thought that it was very relatable. The song is focused around heartbreak and detachments in relationships.
What I enjoyed most about this video the way the emotion is expressed and how the emotional outlet is found. Matic Mouth is the dominate male in the video, we see him attempting to express his thoughts and feelings on paper but failing until he gets into the studio where is he able to express himself completely and zones out.
I know that this is an outlet of many other artist(s) too.

LaRose on SHAYNE BROWN's - SNAPCHAT

It's almost as addictive as the app! I recently listened to Shayne Brown's track 'Snapchat', and the song has been stuck in my head ever since! It's fun, catchy, well structured and relatable .. for some ;).

Shayne's is the vocalist as well as the rapper on this track, which was a pleasant surprise for me. I love when a rapper is capable of singing too.

From what I have heard already, I think he's definitely on the right track and this song is one that I hope to hear many more of. I just wish it was longer!

LaRose with NADIA ROSE @ I Am Next

"I would describe myself as an enigma" ... NADIA ROSE is a rapper from South London. She describes herself as an enigma and tells me that people only know her if she allows them to, otherwise people have to create their own perception from what she shows them.

One of the first questions that I asked Nadia Rose was how does she describes her music. She started of by telling me that she likes to call her music 'alternative rap' and that she is not following the guidelines whilst trying to venture out, attempting to bring back old sounds with new sounds that people are familiar with.
From listening to Nadia Rose's track 'Murder' you will understand exactly what type of sound she's bringing.

We then continued on and spoke about her connection with her audience when performing. Prior to the interview, I watched her 'On Road with Nadia Rose', which shows Nadia performing at different events. What I loved about her stage presence was the way she was able to hype her crowd using her charisma and confidence. She said "I like to think that it's more then just music, I think I show my character through what I do as well". Her audience is then capable of seeing that she is not being reserved. People like and appreciate performers like this.

I asked Nadia what her greatest achievement has been so far. She expressed to me that she feels that her greatest achievement has been the progression she has made. From releasing her music completely in July 2014, to performing at her first open mic also in July 2014 and by January 2015 she began headlining shows.
Learning about artists' progression is very inspiring to me. Finding out about how quickly Nadia Rose has progressed and gained a name for herself is mind blowing, especially because she seemed like a very down to earth and humble person.

"I plan to wreak havoc on the world", says Nadia Rose's when I asked what her future goals and achievements were, it's all music for her. She's building her fan base and foundation, whilst sharing her love.
I went on to ask about her name and the use of 'Rose', I felt that the sound she is bringing is the complete opposite to her name. She then told me that her birth name is Nadia Rose and her story goes back to her school days, where there was two Nadia's in her class and everyone used her surname to differentiate between the two,"It just stuck.. sounds kinda sexy as well".

She is not a 'female MC'. Nadia explained to me why she doesn't call herself a female MC. This conversation began when I asked her how she feels about being a female MC in a male dominating industry. "I am music"; Nadia feels that females are boxed in enough and by referring and relating herself to gender roles, she feels as though she is boxed in even more. However she does feel that being a women in the industry has pros and cons but at the end of the day she is coming for everyone, man or women. I LOVE THIS! Nadia rose has the perfect state of mind, talking to her has shown me that there are no limits or boundaries for her or her music, we need more people with the mind of Nadia Rose in the world.

Finally I asked Nadia Rose when she fell in love with rap. She opens up and tells me that she fell in love with rap when she was at her lowest point, she picked up a pen and decided to write, nothing else made any sense at that point and she is thankful for this.

A rose from the concrete.

Her performance at I AM NEXT was energetic, charismatic and entertaining. I look forward to the havoc!

LaRose on CHE LINGO's - STREET HEAT with Link Up TV

"These nigga's make me cross, like the symbol thats on churches" ... CHE LINGO does it again.
Bringing the ultimate fire during his most recent Street Heat Freestyle with Link Up TV.

"I stay grounded where the earth is to make contact with your soul", is my favourite line throughout the whole freestyle. Che Lingo spits about other rappers unfortunate materialistic mindsets whilst comparing himself as someone who has taken risks in his future; "spending time in the present on rapping and getting dough".

Che Lingo gives us some insight on his own personal history, telling his listeners that his father was a deejay from Clapham in the 90's, whilst also speaking on his childhood peers and how much their lives have changed.

What I personally enjoy about watching Che Lingo's freestyles compared to his songs is that everything is much more raw. Che Lingo has the ability to bring some serious flames during both a freestyle and a song but within his freestyles he is extremely captivating and is beyond any limits.

"This pen might be the key to the problem they didn't solve"
                                                                                      - Che Lingo

I think that Che Lingo is a highly lyrical poetic genius and he has plenty more in store!

LaRose on KADEEM TYRELL's - EVERYTHING

'Everything' is the latest track released by 21 year old singer Kadeem Tyrell. His sound has the ability and potential to create a great name for himself in the R&B industry.

The song is about his realisation for love and the idea of having and being someones everything.

LaRose with JAE POET @ I Am Next

"I'm going to bring a fusion of music and poetry" ... JAE POET is the spoken word artist and singer who is bringing back the merge of song and poetry, and she's doing this with a bang.

I asked Jae Poet how open she was regarding her music and her poetry, she then told me that, she is very open, that she thinks that it is important to be open because conveying her open life experiences to people can sometimes help others throughout their own experiences.
I would count myself as a person who uses music to get through different personal experiences and struggles and I know that there are many other people like me, so I definitely think that Jae Poet is on the right track here.

Jae then told me that her poems are not always based around her own situations, after finding this out I then questioned her on her ability of becoming so deep in her work, she told me that "having the ability to empathise with people"  and putting herself in other peoples situations, helps her write about them.

Who and what inspires you? Was the next question that I asked Jae Poet. "My mum inspires me", without being cheesy or cliche Jae spoke to me about how honest her mother is, in regards to her music, always letting her know what sounds best and what doesn't.
I then asked Jae if she is picky when it comes to choosing the right beats to speak and sing over, because I have always thought that with poetry and spoken word, finding the perfect beat for the perfect lyrics is the most important. She let me know that she does think the same also because many spoken word artist can be mistaken for just another person trying to rap.

We then spoke about the concept of her track 'DAMAGED'.Firstly Jae Poet told me that it is 'sort of' based around herself and is heightened in some parts. She also voiced to me that at the end of her performances she likes to tell the audience that she has not been hurt before, even though she has, simply because she does not want her audience to think that everything that she writes about is completely negative and that the general topic of 'Damaged' is about moving on.

A fusion of music and poetry is what Jae Poet is bringing to the industry, seeing as the last artist(s) to create music and poetry was the British duo 'Floetry' so I definitely think that Jae Poet has a seat waiting for her in the industry.

Finally I asked Jae Poet when she fell in love with poetry. "I've always been in love with poetry" was her reply. She then told me that when she was 10 and in primary school she entered a poetry competition, which resulted with the winner being published in a poetry book called 'Hullabaloo'. Jae wrote a 12 lined poem and won the competition and from then she fell in love with poetry.

Jae Poet's performance at I AM NEXT was lyrical, engaging and mesmerising. Continue to watch with me Jae Poet's journey to bringing a fusion of music and poetry back. I look forward to it.

LaRose on GTsolo - FIRE IN THE STREETS

"If you don't stand for nothing, its best if you stay seated"... Yeh Bwoy's finest GT SOLO from Croydon, South London, lights the flame with his Fire In The Streets. He raps about his drive, ambition and passion in reference to his music and lifestyle.

GT Solo rhymes about people doubting him, whilst also letting them know that even on the inside they know he is outstanding. Clearly confident about himself and his music, GT Solo announces that he is the competition and that he is never going to stop until he reaches the top.

He's not part or stuck in the box, not a stereotype and is simply trying to show a whole different side to his borough. I personally love to know that a rapper is not trying to be like everyone else. GT Solo brings the qualities and characteristics of someone with of a different mind set. In his most recent music video for his track 'Near U', he shows his audience that dreams do come true whist devoting and dedicating his track to those with Ambition.
As i have mentioned before in previous blogs, it's becoming rare to find UK rappers with a positive drive, who are rapping to inspire people but GT Solo is one of the few.

'Day Dreaming 2' is GT Solo's most recent EP. It is a mixture of his gritty urban edge and his ambitious commercial aspirations. 'School Dayz' being my favourite track reminds me off a huge amount of experiences that i have had growing up and i know may other people could relate too, so check it out!

GT (Great Talent) SOLO is on a persistent road to the top. His patience, drive and perseverance is one of a kind. So stay on top his tracks, as he continues to bring his fire.

LaRose with ANJELO DISIONS @ I Am Next

"I don't consider age as a boundary"... ANJELO DISIONS is a 15 year old singer and songwriter, who is making a name for himself within the industry. His soulful voice and prodigious sounds are more then captivating.

I asked Anjelo how it feels to be becoming so successful at such a young age. "It's humbling", was his reply, he then told me that he does not consider age as a boundary or an excuse. Could his response be more perfect? Anjelo is clearly portraying the thought process of someone who is dedicated and passionate about his work and there is nothing better then seeing this from someone who is young and talented.

Anjelo doesn't just sing, he also plays the guitar and i later learnt at the event that he always is able to play the piano too. I asked Disions when he began playing the guitar, he surprised me and said since he was 13. I was beyond impressed! Only two years of learning the craft and he is already extremely skilled. In fact the first time i saw Anjelo perform was when he was busking. I asked him why he decided to busk and he said its because he loves singing and it is a good way to get his music heard by the people. What i think is very confident about Anjelo busking is that many people mistake busking as a cry for money, whereas Anjelo simply wanted to be heard, and people have been responding positively to his music.

Marvin Gaye inspired artist, Anjelo speaks to me about his greatest achievement so far, we spoke about his gig at the Roundhouse in Camden, and his soon to come EP, 'The Awakening' (OUT ON THE 26th APRIL) . Anjelo expressed to me that he has been creating his EP since he was 13 years old! My first thoughts on this was what masterpiece is Anjelo creating!? And that his listeners are going to be able to really hear his growth throughout the EP.

Anjelo made it known to me that he; "just wants to get out there more, as an artist", and that he would love to see himself at the MOBO's, the BRITS and the GRAMMY's. For Anjelo there is no limit within his music and his success throughout this music.

Finally i asked Anjelo Dision's when he fell in love with singing; "Ever since i could start singing", was Anjelo's response, he about around the ages of 3-4 when he began singing and has always loved music.

Anjelo Dision's performance at I AM NEXT was acoustic and nothing less then beautiful, his soulful voice created a smooth atmosphere within the room. Anjelo is young and has his mind set on his dream, from what i see he is going in right direction. All my best wishes are on Anjelo's side!

LaRose with CHE LINGO @ I Am Next

"Passionate, over passionate and way too passionate" ... CHE LINGO is a rapper from South West London, Battersea and he is causing mayhem on the rap scene because of his dope flow and deep lyrics!

After doing my research on Che Lingo, i felt that it was important to ask him how he would personally describe himself; "Passionate, over passionate and way too passionate", was his reply. Before speaking with Che Lingo, i watched a few of his previous performances and 'Confident' was the only word that i could use to describe him. The way he interacts with his audience and his presence on stage in general is extremely confident.

Through his music Che Lingo speaks about his dreams and future accomplishments telling his audience that "obstacles are a myths". During our interview i asked Che Lingo about how much he thinks he has grown since his song 'My Spaceship' which was released in 2012. He told me that he has learnt great amounts, not just about music but also how to be himself and honing his skills as an artists, capitalising on the things he likes to express through his music whilst keeping his listeners happy.

A few weeks before Che Lingo and I spoke, SBTV dropped a warm up session by the man himself and it was INCREDIBLE! Che Lingo gained over 17,000 views and still counting. I questioned Che Lingo on his feelings towards the reaction to the warm up session. He told me that he couldn't of asked for better reviews, the video was blogged between 15-20 times within the first few days of the release, the video views were reaching highs of 10,000+ views during the first 4+ days, more people started to check out Che Lingo's 'BLACK FLOW (THE E TAPE)"released back in August 2014 and most importantly more listeners started to pay closer attention to Che Lingo.
Che Lingo feels that the industry is still treating him very new, but he likes it! He voiced to me that he has realised that bigger artist are hearing much more about him now however they have not completely "taken him in" yet, but he is gaining the greater recognition he deserves and is seeing that the industry is captivating a serious attitude towards his music. "It's nothing but gratitude" he says.

'Mausoleum' is the latest single by Che Lingo. Again SBTV debuted the official video for the track and it has had nothing but positive reviews 'the jazz tinted ode' is absolute perfection! TRIP is the acronym that Che Lingo lives and inspires by, it means 'The Risk Is Proof'. If not for all, then for many the music industry is a great risk to pursue a career in and after hearing this acronym from Che Lingo, i am ALL for it too! We can look forward to more visuals from Che this year and a brand new debut EP.

Finally i asked Che Lingo when he fell in love with rap. He told me that he fell in love with Grime before he fell in love with rap, he informed me that his flows and skills are inspired and come from old grime that he used too and still listens to now. He revealed to me that Grime was his first love and it has now grown, matured and developed into what he is today!

Che Lingo's headlining performance at I AM NEXT was impeccable, his pure and constant passion leaked, surrounded and emancipated in and throughout the room. I wish Che Lingo nothing but the greatest success whilst he is on his journey to building his Mausoleum #TRIP

LaRose with 4i @ I Am Next

"4 is the vibe and the I is the vision"... 4i is a rapper, singer and songwriter, who was most definitely my favourite on the I AM NEXT line-up.

I asked 4i to tell me the meaning behind his name and how it represented himself. "4 is the vibe and the I is the vision", which he then explained to mean that the number '4' has positive vibrations and the letter 'I' means to be aware of everything around you, with a level of enlightenment and a level of consciousness. Establishing this made me think about my perception of great music. Positive sounds and lyrics are crucial for me to hear whilst knowing that artist in question is also aware of his/her surroundings and environment when they are pursuing their different situations throughout their music. 4i does this! Consistently!

4i then told me that he is not trying to express a level of consciousness, however he is trying to emancipate people to a particular degree, where he can inspire people to think for themselves, be happy with the skin that they are in and to simply allow people to be themselves, without being pressured or feeling like they are going to be judge. Knowing that 4i is attempting to express these feelings to his audience is exquisite. Artist like 4i are becoming extremely rare in the UK rap scene, which is an ultimate shame. I believe that too many listeners are blindsided by the underground street trash that is rapidly being circulated throughout the UK. Let 4i be your breath of fresh air!
SOUL RICH is 4i's latest EP, he told me that his listeners can expect good vibes and positive music, from Soul Rich, with some conscious messages. So make sure you check it out!

When watching 4i's 'Soul Rich' music video, you will notice that a whole bunch of people wearing gold mask. I asked 4i about this; he explained to me that the gold mask was an idea that came from another member of the Paradime collective. 4i's gold masks are described as an mascot of being Soul Rich, his masks have been used throughout the Soul Rich journey and is generally a representation of the EP. 4i also decoded his meaning behind his EP title, allowing me to understand that Soul Rich is all about self worth. We discussed his thoughts on the materialistic world we are living in and he feels that Soul Rich exemplifies self value.

Finally i asked 4i when he fell in love with rap. He told me that he was around the age of 13/14 and he was on the computer making and playing with beats, he was looking through his fathers CD collection in order to find something to sample, when he came across KRS One - Criminal Minded and was 'blown away'. He then wrote his first verse and attempted to create his beat and from that day he fell in love with music.

4i took to the stage with great presence. My favourite track performed was his 4th Eye (Freestyle), where he had his audience including myself greatly applauding. I look forward to 4i's huge success!

LaRose with SHAUNA SHADAE @ I Am Next

"She always tells me, it's in my destiny" .... SHAUNA SHADAE is the 18 year old singer songwriter who dreams of becoming a legend one day, and with her mesmerising voice and stunning features (which is only a bonus) the right perseverance and consistency in making, singing and producing good music, i can see it all happening for her.

Whilst speaking to Shauna, i learnt that she had been singing for four years and it was her competitive nature that made her start. Shauna wanted to be the best in her year group instead of being the second best, she told me that she never had the loudest, strongest and most confident voice until she really started practising and attending singing lessons to secure her place in the no.1 spot. As her confidence grew she was encouraged by her teacher to sing a solo at school, who also said that if she does not perform then she will be kicked off of her music course, undoubtedly he only had Shauna's best interest at heart and i'm assuming that she must be very thankful for that.

We also spoke about her mothers thoughts and feelings on the idea of Shauna wanting to pursue a singing career and unlike many mothers, Shauna's mother was all for it! In fact Shauna's mother told her to follow her dreams, that she would be supporting her 100%, whilst also letting her know that she does have talent and will be pushing her to follow this calling. I personally thought that this was such a beautiful thing to hear. Nothing is better then knowing that your mother whom as a child you make it your job to always please, is proud of your decisions and really believes in you. The world needs more mothers like this!
I asked Shauna Shadae about how she began songwriting, what made her start and what type of songs she writes. She told me that again her song writing all came down to her self belief and motivation to be good at songwriting. She also let me know that she has been working on making her own beats and has been getting familiar with the skills to producing because she does not want to be another girl who can only sing and look good. We need more females that think like Shauna Shadae in the industry, she honestly sounds like she's in the making to becoming a real boss!

Finally i asked Shauna when she fell in love with music. "Probably from the womb", was her answer. She then let me in on another story. Shauna told me that her mother had told her, that when she was carrying Shauna, she used to talk to her tummy and say that she was going to be a singer one day, which is why she was named after the smooth jazz and soul singer Sade. At first Shauna wanted to be a lawyer but suddenly she began to fall in love with music, and as her mother says; it's in her destiny.

Shauna Shadae's performed with her live bang a cover of 'Beyonce ft Nicki Minaj - Flawless', everyone in the audience was entertained including myself. With the passion and drive that Shauna Shadae expressed to me during our interview, i truly believe that she is an artist who will make huge achievements.

LaRose with DC SCRIBBLA @ I Am Next

He's young but "you don't want this trouble" ... DC SCRIBBLA is tired of being slept on and tells me how hungry he is for his success.
The 17 year old, British - American rapper is making a name for himself through the beauty of his art scribbled all over the mic, and i like it.

Dc Scribbla talks to me about the use of his American accent when he raps and how much people question, he simply believes that people should respect his art just as he respect theirs. Which is absolutely right! Artists are very sensitive about their music, gaining appreciation and recognition is the most important. I think a fact for every artist to know is that; sometimes listeners do not hear. But for Dc Scribbla, i'm hearing you. I think your accent gives you individuality especially because you make it known to people that you may have spent your early life in the US, however you are from Battersea, South London.
I asked Dc what he is going to be bringing to the game, he said 'honesty, influence and just a representation of young people'. Tracks such as 'Trouble' and 'School' really came to my mind when he said this. His song 'Trouble' gave pure honesty, Dc Scribbla did not shy away about how he was coming for his place at the top, it may come across as violent which we also spoke about, but i think that if you are a listener who is really hearing then you will know that Dc just marked his territory.

'School', represents how many young people feel, and i think that Dc being able to express that through a fun, hyped and light hearted track is super dope.
Dc Scribbla's future goals were to keep inspiring people, shoot more videos and to get his short film done (which i greatly look forward to). I then finally asked him when did he fall in love with rap, he said when he was 9 years old in Canada, his cousin introduced him to Lupe Fiasco's The Cool, and from then its been history!

It was incredible watching Dc Scribbla perform and was a pleasure speaking with him, his passion for his music is immense. Listeners make sure your hearing DC SCRIBBLA!!
